PRESS RELEASE: Real Property Management Last Frontier advises UAA faculty on Weidner Program curriculum

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Nov. 9, 2017 – Real Property Management (RPM) Last Frontier joined the advisory council for University of Alaska Anchorage’s Weidner Property Management and Real Estate Program in 2015. Only a handful of programs offer a four-year degree in property management in the United States. The Weidner Program is one of the few, established by a generous donation from Dean Weidner, the Founder of Weidner Apartment Homes. The Program is developing talent in property management, a much-needed asset for the Anchorage area as demand for rental housing continues to rise.

Advisors like Real Property Management were brought on board to assist in the development of the curriculum by providing a real-world perspective. “The Weidner Program did an excellent job at sourcing a wide variety of advisors,” says Kassandra Taggart, President of Real Property Management, “Companies that specialize in commercial property management, residential, hospital, boutique–from all over the board–meet two to three times per year to discuss how to foster well-rounded people. I’d like to give a shout-out to Terry Fields for making it all happen.” Fields is the Program Director and an Assistant Professor.

In 2017, the Weidner Program announced the Fall opening of a new facility at UAA, the Weidner Center for Real Estate Management. Taggart attended an Open House late last month. “The space is bright, open, and designed to encourage collaboration and foster people skills,” she says, “These skills are invaluable in the property management industry, where we act as a liaison between landlords and tenants.” With over $60K invested in state-of-the-art tech equipment at the Center, the space is a big draw for prospective students.

Similar programs across the Nation achieve near 100% job placement. The Weidner Program currently has 70 people registered with a goal to reach 100. Students and companies have already benefited from these goals. Real Property Management hired two interns last summer. “It has been great to bring millennial talent onboard,” says Taggart, “They have an innate understanding of technology, and they streamlined some of our processes while they were here. We are very supportive of the program and excited about where it is going.”
